Being part of a team is critical. If one man goes down, the ship should still sail on as if nothing happened. It’s a good feeling to look around you and see people dedicated, working their asses off and to know they share the same values and work ethic you do. When you’re knee deep in the shit and your hair is about to catch on fire and when you can’t possibly manage one more ticket, or one more pickup, you should be able to look at the guy across from you and 1 of 2 things should be clear to you. Either 1, he laughs and says, “cheer up it gets worse” cause he’s either in the shit himself, has been there before, or is about to be there, or 2 he picks up a pan, or a plate, and starts slingin’…
But what if you are the team? What if you go down, does that mean the ship does too? What if you fracture your skull, or get abducted by aliens, or lock yourself in the trunk of your car and you can’t make it in? Then what? They close the kitchen, put out the lights in the dining room and say “sorry folks, no food tonight.”
No amount of money is worth carrying the entire load. Seriously…
